June MeGahee

Obituary of June Rabon MeGahee

June Rabon MeGahee December 20. 1926 - February 17, 2023 June Rabon MeGahee, 96, Winter Haven Fl, died with grace at home in her sleep on February 17, 2023. Her final 20 years were spent quietly supporting, and being supported by her family and faithful dogs, after losing her husband of 56 years, Walter Clyde MeGahee. She was a woman of quiet strength and resilience. She was the heart of her family, inspiring them until the day she died with her love, cooking skills, wry wit, style, songs, dignity and unfailing common sense. She grew up in Early county Georgia and as a career military wife, lived in Japan and many places in the U.S., before settling in Florida in 1958. She and her husband Walter moved to Winter Haven in 1965 where they joined the Polk Junior College community when the campus was still at Bartow Air Base. After retiring, June and Walter vacationed in the mountains, with their family. Their most unexpected retirement activity was attending outdoor music festivals. They loved going to the Florida Folk Festival, and various Americana and Bluegrass festivals with family and friends. They were members of Beymer Memorial Church. She is survived by her children Mike MeGahee (Bunnie), Walter Drew MeGahee (Lucy), Sandi MeGahee Jones, Scott MeGahee and grand children Shawn MeGahee, Maitland Jones, Landon MeGahee and Kiara Manayaga. She is preceded in death by her husband and soulmate Walter Clyde MeGahee and her twin sister Jerry Rabon MeGahee. The twins had a deep connection and married brothers in a joint ceremony in 1946. Divinely, the twins died on the same day seven years apart.
